Writing Exercise
Think about a spa day, then write a short story about a spa day with your characters.
Side Note
I will be using Scout, Jennifer, and Katlyn for this exercise. I’m jealous of them though because I would like a spa day as I have never had one before. I’ve had a massage before but never a spa day. Maybe one day I will get to enjoy it.
My Story
Jennifer and Katlyn stood outside Scout’s front door early Saturday morning. Scout slowly opened it after her friends had rang the bell and banged on it a few times. She looked at her friends confused. “What do you two want? It’s only 7 in the morning.” Scout scratched her bed head hair, squinting at her friends.
“Get dressed! We are taking you somewhere,” Katlyn said.
Scout groaned and stepped back inside allowing Katlyn and Jennifer to come inside. Jennifer closed the door and the three trooped up to Scout’s room. The girls said hi to Scout’s parents, who sat at the table drinking coffee and reading the morning newspaper.
Once they were in her room, “Scout closed her door behind her friends. “So where are you taking me?”
“Just get dressed,” Jennifer said, opening Scout’s closet. She tossed her friend a shirt.
Scout caught the shirt, grabbed her jeans, socks, underwear, and went into the bathroom. She got dressed, brushed her hair, brushed her teeth and joined her friends. Katlyn grabbed Scout’s hand and dragged her out of the house with Jennifer bringing up the rear, closing the doors as they go.
Katlyn drove her friends to a nice looking shopping center, bustling with customers. She parked in front of the building that said Heavenly Spa and she grinned at Scout. She knew Scout had never been to a spa before but she wanted her best friend to experience it.
Scout eyes the sign. “Heavenly Spa?”
Katlyn and Jennifer climbed out of the car and waited for Scout in front of the door. Scout sighed and crawled out of the car, following his friends inside. She was nervous since she had never been to a spa.
Katlyn smiled at the woman named Betty who stood behind the counter. “Betty!”
“Katlyn, welcome back. Oh you finally talked Jennifer and Scout to come with you.”
“Jennifer was easy to get here but we didn’t tell Scout we were bringing her here,” Katlyn said with a grin. “We would like facials, manicures, pedicures, get our eyebrows done, and get our hair done with highlights. Or strips of color if they prefer to do that.”
Scout let out a low grunt when she heard everything Katlyn had ordered for them. Though having colored strips through her hair would be fun. Betty typed everything into her computer and grinned before she made a call to the back. Soon three young women appeared from the back.
“Jennifer and Scout, I would like you to meet Sydney, Carrie, and Mallory. Scout, I think I will pair you with Mallory and Jennifer, I think you and Carrie would be a good fit. While I will take Sydney for myself,” Katlyn said.
In a whirlwind of commotion, Scout found herself sitting in a chair with Mallory behind her washing her hair. Jennifer and Katlyn sat on either side of her chatting with Carrie and Sydney, voicing about how excited they were for their spa day.
Scout didn’t know what to say but she also talked, answering questions as she had light blue dye stripes put in her reddish-brown hair, her eyebrows waxed, her toenails and nails painted a dark blue, and her face slathered with something that smelled amazing.
After four hours of being pampered, and Katlyn paid, Scout stepped outside feeling like a new girl. She admired her nails for a minute since she never did her nails.
Katlyn grinned at her friends. “Want to do that again next month?”
Scout shrugged. “Yea sure, but not the hair. Maybe a few months later for the hair. I think I might want to dye it purple next time.”
“Me, too!” Jennifer said, her eyes lighting up. “I want to do strips of orange. Be wild, you know?”
The friends agreed to return in a month for another best friend spa day. They chatted about their spa experience as they walked to the bookstore just a few stores down from Heavenly Spa.
