Writing Exercise
Write a short story based around your favorite outfit and how your character got it. Talk about where they would wear it.
Side Note
I will be creating a new character for this exercise.
My Favorite Outfit
Blue jeans, black boots (tied and zipped), blue short sleeve shirts with funny writer sayings, and a gray hoodie that says ‘Horror Writer, I turn Fairy Tales into Nightmares.”
My Story
Cole searched online for some fun writer shirts since she had to get rid of quite a few due to wearing them practically every day. As she scrolled, a gray hoodie caught her eye. Cole sat up straighter and grinned. She knew she had to have the hoodie, so she added it to the court..
“Perfect!” Cole said. “Horror Writer- I turn Fairy Tales into Nightmares.”
She continued her search until she found a navy blue short sleeved shirt that read “Pay No Attention To My Browsing History. I’m a Writer Not a Serial Killer, I Swear.” Cole laughed and hit the add to cart button after she picked her size. She also added another one that read “Careful Or You’ll End Up in My Novel.” She checked out and sat back on her bed, setting her phone down. Cole was happy to have found a hoodie and two shirts that she liked. She also saved quite a few to buy later.
Cole looked at her jeans and decided that she should get a few more pairs because she had just thrown two others that wore out. She slid her feet into her black boots and zipped them off before she stood up and slipped her phone into the back pocket of her jeans. She walked out of the room, grabbed her purse and keys, and headed out into the garage of her house.
Cole drove to Costco, looking forward to finding some new jeans, and pick up a few other things she needed food wise. She had a Writer’s Conference the following weekend and she wanted to make sure she had enough jeans along with her writer shirts and her favorite gray and blue National Parks shirts from her past visits. Cole was excited to be around other writers again and she couldn’t wait to hear other authors, publishers, editors, and agents talk, her agent and publisher two of the speakers at the welcome breakfast on the first day.
Her new shirts and hoodie would get there three days before she had to travel to Northern California. They had gotten a kick out of some of her older shirts that had to be thrown away at other conferences so she had to wear more.
Cole turned up the radio and sang along as she drove to Costco. She glanced down at her scuffed and old boots with a frown. Cole lifted her eyes to the road and hoped Costco still carried her favorite boots so she could buy a new pair to replace her old ones. She didn’t want to be at the conference and had the bottoms fall off. She grinned as she thought about the conference again and rocked out to the music, her excitement getting to her.
