Chapter 3
Rose opens her eyes to find herself staring at her new house, outside. She looks down and pulls out the front door keys. They had been in her front pocket just like before. She jiggles them in her hand and instead of growing excited; she feels dread.
Her legs push her forward to the front door. Before she can stop herself, the door is open, and she is spinning in each room. She collapses, sobbing in the middle of her new bedroom.
“I can’t stop…I can’t stop…” She covers her face when she hears the van honking outside. “No, Jean, no, please…”
Rose takes off her glasses and drops them on the floor next to her. Her glasses land with a wet splash. She falls backwards onto the carpet, staring blindly at the ceiling. She slaps her hands in her blood surrounding her.
Jean honks again, and Rose feels her body forcing her up. She shakes her head, muttering no repeatedly as she places her bloody glasses on her face.
Defeated, Rose walks out of her room and out of the house to meet with Tom and Jean. She’s stuck and there is nothing she can do about it. Rose says the same things through her sobs, neither Tom nor Jean noticing. She is stuck.
