A song leaves her lips as the mermaid lounges on a rock. Her purple eyes stare up at the cliffs above her. She brushes her long black hair back as salty water sprays over her with each wave. Her purplish red fin slaps the rock.
Above on the cliff, a young man leans over. He hears someone singing and wants to see who it is. He doesn’t understand the words, but the song captivates him. He feels himself drawn to it.
The ground below him crumbles and he falls. He grasps for the ground, but the wet grass slips through his fingers.
The crumbling ground bounces down the wall and hits the water. The splash startles the mermaid, and she whips around to see a human male falling.
The man screams, his fingers digging into the side of the cliff as he feels his body free falling down to the ocean below. The soft ground turns to rock, and it breaks his nails. Blood streaks down the rocks.
The mermaid dives in and quickly makes her way over to where the human is falling. She stops and watches as he hits the water.
The water shakes his body so hard a few bones break. He gasps as he goes under, his head hitting a rock. Blood swirls around him as he forces himself to stay conscious.
The mermaid dives under the water and swims after the man. She cocks her head this way and that as she watches him sink. The man spots the mermaid and looks hopeful at the striking creature.
The mermaid reaches her hand out towards the man then snatches hers away. She laughs as she watches him struggle. She swims around him, watching as his blood from his head mixes with the already salty ocean.
The man gasps and garbs at his throat, unable to swim because of his broken bones. He reaches the bottom of the pool under the cliff. His eyes stare around him as he takes his last breath, skeletons surrounding him.
The mermaid swims to the service and sits back on the rock. Another mermaid with striking gray eyes, yellow hair, and a yellow fin to match, pulls herself up on the rock.
They look up at the cliff and begin to sing together. Soon four men fall from the cliff, screaming, and clawing at the rock. Their bodies slam into the water, the sounds of their breaking bones becoming one with the rushing waves.
The two mermaids dive into the water and watches them drown as did all of their victims.
They return to the rock and chatter about their experiment between using just one mermaid singing and two mermaids singing. They laugh and stare down into the water at the bones of their past experiments and at the fleshy bodies of their new experiments.
