October 28- Cauldron Bubble
Author’s Note: I have been sick for quite a while and that is why these are coming out late. Sadly, I haven’t had the energy to work but I will still post the rest for the month of October. Enjoy!
Kenneth and his twin Paul headed into a Halloween store, ready to find their costumes for the Halloween party they had been invited to on the college campus. They didn’t want anything boring, like a simple ghost. They wanted something cool and memorable. The Halloween store was new and since they had already been to three others, this was the final one close enough to look at. Then they’d have to travel further away to go to other stores and if they didn’t find anything there, it would be a mess.
They looked through the costumes until Kenneth found a mummy costume and Paul found a pretty cool looking werewolf costume. They looked the costumes over and looked at each other.
“What do you think?” Paul said as he held up the werewolf costume. “This one is pretty cool, but I’m not sure.”
“Wanna switch?” Kenneth asked and held the mummy costume towards his brother. “You strike me as more of the mummy type. Plus, I know you can make this costume look even better.”
Paul eyed the mummy costume for a second, then nodded. He handed the werewolf costume to his brother and took the mummy one. They tried them on, and shrugged. They still weren’t sold on the costumes, but they’d take them anyway.
A few days later, a Steampunk Werewolf and a Dapper Mummy strolled out of a house and to a dark green jeep. They climbed in the jeep and backed out of the driveway as a woman appeared at the door.
She waved after them. “Have fun, boys. You did great on your costumes.”
They waved back and headed out of the neighborhood. She walked back inside and closed the door, getting ready for the trick or treaters. Paul turned on the radio while Kenneth followed the directions. As soon as they got to the street, they saw there were a lot of cars already parked by the curbs. Kenneth parked, and they headed to the door, but something seemed off. The music was playing, the lights were flashing, and the door was open, but there wasn’t any laughter or any other kinds of noises.
Kenneth and Paul glanced at each and walked to the door. They both jumped when the cauldron by the door bubbled, spilling out smoke and some weird colored bubbles. The twins looked at each other and laughed before they walked through the bubbles. The bubbles stuck and covered their arms and legs as they entered the front entryway. They brushed them off and looked around, but the house seemed empty.
Kenneth and Paul walked into the living room, where there should have been people in costumes dancing. There should be laughter, talking, and yelling, but there was nothing. They walked through the entire house and found… no one?
“Where is everyone?” Paul walked into the backyard and saw something in the pool. He walked closer. “Kenneth, come here.”
Kenneth sat a can down on the counter and ran outside to see what Paul needed. He joined his brother by the pool and stared into the water when Paul pointed at it. They looked at each other and they moved closer, bending down. The dark figure under the water moved fast, jumped out of the water, and grabbed Paul into the pool. Kenneth yelled and tried to grab Paul, but fell into the pool, too.
“Paul!” He dove under to save his brother and saw a mermaid with sharp teeth and nails pushing him down to the bottom of the pool. He went back up, shocked by what he had seen, then dove back under and swam to save Paul.
The mermaid looked up and saw Kenneth glaring at her. She let the nearly drowned Paul go and swam for Kenneth. Kenneth grabbed her hands and moved his face away from the nails of the mermaid. Paul sprang up behind her and used some of the mummy’s wrap to pull the mermaid away from his brother. He tightened the wrap around the mermaid’s neck, cutting off the flow of oxygen. The mermaid screamed and tried to claw off the bandages, but Paul and Kenneth wouldn’t allow it. After a struggle, everyone stopped moving.
Paul and Kenneth surfaced, gasping and spitting out water. They climbed out of the pool. Kenneth grabbed the werewolf mask and pulled it off. He tossed it to the side and sat up, looking at his brother.
“What in the world happened?”
His brother sat up slowly and stared at Kenneth. Kenneth looked at him strangely, then felt his face, thinking he had something on there. But what he felt was fur. He felt his teeth and screamed, but the scream came out as a howl. Paul went to talk to him, but his voice only came out as a groan. He grabbed for his throat, scared. He stood up and was going to pace, but he could barely walk. His left leg felt heavy, so it slid along the floor, while his right walked normally.
Kenneth watched as Paul’s eyes glazed over and grew a death shine. Kenneth tried to talk, but it only came out as growling and barks. Paul groaned at his brother, and they hurried out of the house. Out on the street, people were running and screaming as monsters ran around, chasing them. There was blood and body parts scattered on the street. Paul and Kenneth looked at each other and grunted at each other, then trudged down the street among the chaos.
