Making A Come Back After A Year In Hell
I have been missing for quite some time and that is because I had to deal with a lot of issues due to my health taking a big hit. I had been diagnosed with live disease a few years ago and since I was overweight, that was the cause of it. I had to lose weight and quite a bit if I wanted to reverse the issues with my liver or it would eventually get worst. I am not the tallest woman, only being 5’7″ but I did weight 142 lbs. after having raised my two girls and being there for my husband. I had tried to lose weight before, but it was hard.
I tried dieting of course, having started the Mediterranean Diet but it was slow going and I didn’t really stick to it. I talked to my doctor, and she said that surgery was my best chance in losing the weight that I would need to even have a chance of getting my liver back to normal. So, I was referred to a surgeon to discuss the types of surgery, and which would be the best options for me. I had my husband by my side the entire time so I could understand what was being said and to have my support team withe me. I started to take a pill to help get me started on losing weight before the surgery, but I can’t remember it now.
I took the pill for three months before the surgery, then on September 12th of 2025, I went in for my gastric bypass surgery. BUT that wasn’t all. After getting scoped, the surgeon also found a hernia in my throat. So, on top of the gastric bypass surgery, now I had to get a hernia repaired inside my throat. I guess they were having a two for one special.
Ryan, my husband, dropped me off at the hospital and droveback home in order to take care of our two little girls, though they aren’t so little anymore. I had the surgeries and both were sucessful… or so we had thought. I rested and was discharged a couple of days later. I had to eat, or should say, drink my meals and slowly get up to where I cnan eat soft foods.
Everything seemed to be going well with my liquid diet, until it wasn’t. I switched to soft foods and thought I was on the mend. But in truth, I wasn’t. Everything changed for the worst. I had always had issues with phlegm while growing up but it was never an issue since I could just spit it out. Well, after my two surgeries, especially my throat hernia repair surgery, my phlegm became a HUGE problem.
Recovery Going Down Hill Fast
So, because of the gastric bypass surgery, my stomach is now the size of an egg, which means I have to be on a bariatric det (Low to now sugars and low to no carbs). Plus, I have to take more pills to help mey body as well as eat a lot more protein. It’s a lot harder than you think since you get full so quickly then hungry again a few hours later.
But once I had switched to soft foods, that was when my phlegm became the issue. I had also found out that I had hyperthyroidism. So this made things rough as well but I didn’t know. I had talked to a neck and head surgeon and he had told me that the thyroid wouldn’t be the cause of my phlegm problem. But something was making it worse. I couldn’t spit it out, things got stuck in my throat, it felt like there was somethingin my throat that was hard, it was miserable. So miserabe that I stopped eating completely. i was living months on just water. I couldn’t even drink protein shakes.
I had to go into the hospital 9-10 times over the course of a year after my surgery, weak, slowly shutting down because of the lack of nutrients. The first four times I went in, my gastric surgeon would check in on me, trying to figure out what was going on, even had me go in to get a bag of nutrients twice. But after the fourth time, he stopped coming. I had been scoped several times but nothing showed what was wrong. I still think it had something to do with my throat surgery. I couldn’t spit out the phlegm, swallowing made me sick, and because of my gastric bypass surgery, I couldn’t throw up. Not. At. All.
So, since I had all of the phlegm build up, couldn’t spit it out properly, it is staying lodged in my nek, I couldn’t eat, didn’t WANT to eat. Food got stuck, my pills got stuck, I had to spit them out, it felt disgusting to swallow which made me sick, and I was constantly spitting because my glands were overworking.
Next Surgery
Since I had finished my last two surgeries, it was time for me to move on to my next surgery to take care of my hyperthyroid. But I was so weak from lack or nutrients, I would have to be put on TPN, or Total Parenteral Nutrition, a mixture of nutrients that is made just for me after taking my blood every day. My arms were in so much pain and now I have scar tissues built up in my arms from how many times I’ve had to be poked and prodded over the last year.
But I went forward with the TPN and the surgery. April 1st of 2026 came and I went into the hospital once again. I was given nutrients before the surgery, then the neck and head surgeon went in, did what needed to be done, put on TPM, and I went through a few days of that before I noticed a change.
Other doctors came to see me, including two phycologists to talk to me about everything I had been through. They said they had a pill they wanted to put me on that would help me with my appetite. At that point, I was desperate to try anything so I said yes. I was given a THC pill and it did wonders. Not only that but after my neck surgery, I was no longer spitting constantly AND the best part, I COULD EAT!
Yes, I could finally eat. So I would slowly eat, get my protein and other needed nutrients, and slowly make my way to getting better as well as getting off the TPN, what hey didn’t tell me is that it could cause weird pins and needles feeling in my feet and legs. I t ran up my entire body and it was horrible. I couldn’t sleep now and the pain was bad. No one did anything about it either while I was in the hospital. I asked again and again for something or it but they didn’t do anything until I was transported to a different facility that worked with patients like myself on TPN.
Once I had been trasnferred, the food got better, the care got better, and everything was moving forward for me to be able to go home. I was still weak and had to do therapy but I didn’t let it stop me. I have a husband and two little girls to get back home to.
I hated being away from them for so long and for so many times. Already having to be in the hospital on and off from after my first two surgeries, and then having to stay longer because I needed to get my strength back and get off the TPN. And I know it was hurting them because I had received an email from my youngest daughter’s teacher while she was still in 2nd grade about how she started to cry. Reading that her teacher had to hug her and comfort he because she is sad since her mommy isn’t around hurt. It made me fight more. And my oldest is growing up fast, already a preteen and soon turning into that teenager stage of life. She is having to deal with hormones and emotions and everything without me there. Her dad doesn’t fully understand it so she needs me here.
I pushed myself to get better, to eat, to do the therapy even if I wasn’t feeing good, and doing what I can get off the TPN. I wanted to get home. My family visited me and my parents even came out to help take care of the girls so that my husband coul get a break and just worry about me.
I am so grateful though that now I am home again with my family, slowly getting my strength back, on way more pills to help with everything especially now that I have nerve damage in my feet from the TPN. I am still struggling to get my protein up and now my weight. I started at 242 lbs. and now between 103 and 108, which definitely way below weight that I should be.
But, I am home, getting back in my routines again, and will be posting more blogs and getting back to my writing. I want to get my life back to normal while struggling and working on getting this new life in order, to get used to having to eat every few hours because of my stomach being so small now, and figuring out what to eat without getting the dumping syndrome that is painful and so annoying.
My healing process will be a long journey but I have my family, my friends, and my writing community I can rely on for help. I will get better, stronger, and be able to do more with my family. I will also, like I sad, write more blogs, whether reviews, interviews, or short stories, and I will be getting back to working on my books.
What To Look Forward To From Me
Now that I am on the mend, slowly, I am ready to get back to my life. I will be doing a lot more with the family but I will also concentrate on my writing, my books, my blog, and my publishing company with my husband. The rest of this year and into the next will be me slowly getting back into a routine of writing and blogging every week, writing my books, editing my books, finding people to illustrate my covers and children’s books (No AI allowed), hire my editor, Sarah, to edit my books that I have ready, and getting my books published on Rocky Road Publishing LLC.
First book to be republished will be Pahulu Hale and then my next book to be published will actually be my youngest daughter’s children’s book she wrote a couple of years ago. I have a list of titles that will be published and written. Will I follow it? Who knows. My mind jumps from idea to idea so following a list doesn’t always happen. But I will be getting more writing done, whether my books or on here for my blogs.
So, keep an eye out for the next short story on here and soon the republication of Pahulu Hale, my first ever published horror paranormal book that had to be taken back by a horrible independent publisher who did nothing for me. That is all explained in a another post a few years ago. But other than that.
HI, I’M BACK!
