October 13- Sugar Rush
Bobby jumped around as he waited for his parents to go through the candy he had just gotten from trick-or-treating. He just wanted to have some candy, but his parents wanted to make sure they were all safe.
“Come on, mom,” he whined. “I want some candy.”
His mom waved him off and finished going through the bag with her husband. “Okay, okay, Bobby. You can have a few tonight, but don’t go overboard.”
Bobby grabbed the bag and ran into the living room, where he sat down and put on the TV. His parents went about cleaning the kitchen and getting ready for bed. Bobby opened the first piece and popped into his mouth, eagerly waiting for the caramel to hit his tongue.
Bobby flipped through the channels to find an old horror movie. He found The Blob and sat the remote on the coffee table, where he knelt behind. He popped in a few more pieces quickly, not even really tasting them. All he wanted was to eat and eat and eat. The TV screen went dark, then changed to a commercial. Bobby ignored the commercial and ate five more pieces. He glanced to see where his parents were before he unwrapped a lollipop and sucked on it, half-watching the movie when it came back on.
“You can have three more pieces and then you’re done, Bobby,” his mom yelled out from the kitchen.
“Okay, mom!” he yelled back and picked out three more pieces and closed the bag. He giggled and felt strange, but he ignored it and finished his lollipop.
“Son, go brush your teeth,” his dad said.
“I’m not done yet, dad,” Bobby called back and bit into another piece of candy. As he chewed, he had buzzing in his ears.
“You’re done, Bobby,” his dad called, his voice angry.
“In a minute, dad,” he yelled back, eating the last two pieces of candy. The buzzing grew louder and his sight wavered. He couldn’t understand what was going on. He stood up to go talk to his parents, but he fell back on the couch. He called out to his parents, but they hadn’t heard him. The buzzing became too much. He curled up and covered his ears while his sight turned white.
“Bobby? What’s wrong?” his dad asks.
“Sweety, you look so pale,” his mom says. “Bobby?”
Screams filled the air.
Bobby sat up on the couch, the buzzing having stopped. He blinked and looked around when his eyesight came back. He held his stomach as he stood up, feeling sick. Bobby walked over to the kitchen. “Mommy? I don’t feel very good.”
Bobby stopped in the entrance to the kitchen and looked around. His mom and dad laid on the ground in a pool of blood. They stared at Bobby with glassed eyes. Bobby stepped back and screamed, nearly slipping on some blood. He looked down at himself and saw he was covered in blood. Still clutched in his hand was the knife covered in his parents’ blood.
